MPS stands for Mazda Performance Series.

Mazda6 MPS takes Mazda's Zoom-Zoom philosophy to new levels of performance and refinement. It aims to provide you with the ultimate Zoom-Zoom experience through exceptional performance, dynamic handling and superior style and sophistication.

It has everything that's great about Mazda6. Superb handling, sporty style, lashings of luxury. But with a massive injection of extra Zoom-Zoom. Introducing the new turbocharged, all-wheel drive Mazda6 MPS. Proof that the company famous for infusing the soul of a sports car into everything it does, is not resting on its laurels. MPS blends high performance with high levels of refinement to create the ultimate Zoom-Zoom sedan.

Performance comes from a Direct Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) turbocharged 2.3 litre in-line 4 cylinder engine with 190kW of power and 380Nm of torque. A feature of the 2.3 litre DISI turbo engine is its linear delivery of power and torque all the way up the rev range. While a new 6-speed manual transmission gives you fast, precise and complete control over the power. Add the traction of the Active Torque Split (ATS) all-wheel drive system to an ultra stiff body and you've got the ultimate in Zoom-Zoom performance.

Interior

Starting with a cabin design that comfortably seats four adults, the design goal of the Mazda6 MPS was to realize an environment more conducive to communication between the driver and passengers, and with a look and feel of greater quality.

The front row, semibucket seats are large and offer generous leg and side support. Finding the perfect driving position is as easy as activating the three-position seat* memory and setting the tilt and telescopically adjustable steering wheel. Instruments and controls are precisely where you need them. From the silver rimmed meters and drilled aluminium pedals to the aluminium gearshift knob.

Unlike so many performance cars, MPS performs brilliantly when it comes to space. There's ample room for five adults, with generous legroom and headroom. There's also comfort aplenty in the high quality materials, fit and finish. This is Mazda craftsmanship at its best. On the road, cabin quietness is impressive, unless of course you choose to pump up the 200 watt Bose® audio with its seven speakers, including sub-woofer.*

Audio controls are steering-wheel mounted and illuminated for night driving. Other push-button comforts and conveniences include cruise control, climate control air-conditioning, remote central locking, electric side mirrors and power windows. As you'll see, high levels of luxury and performance are standard in the Mazda6 MPS.

Exterior

The aim was to create a sophisticated, dynamic design to compliment the outstanding high performance and convey the pure essence of 'zoom-zoom'.

The exhilarating contours of the Mazda6 are further accentuated to create a look that conveys the vehicle's dynamic performance and stability. A sophisticated look for those who appreciate mature refinement.

Smooth yet powerful lines flow along the bonnet from the upper grille for added depth and hint at the high performance delivered by the turbocharged engine. The aerodynamic form of the front aero bumper and lower grille also speak of the car's high performance and amplify its road-hugging image. Mazda's five-point grille section also serves as the air intake for the engine's intercooler.

Flared side skirts and unique 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with low profile tyres suggest that perhaps this is not your normal everyday sedan. While the rear aero bumper features a built in diffuser for the integrated tailpipe and a highly effective compact rear lip spoiler are further evidence that this car is something special.

Slightly understated, still purposeful yet highly refined, the Mazda6 MPS opens a new chapter in the Mazda6 success story.

Performance

The primary development theme for the Mazda6 MPS was to realize the ultimate Zoom-Zoom sedan by ideally balancing high performance and driving pleasure.

This was the aim behind the adoption of the all-new Active Torque Split All-Wheel Drive system and the newly developed direct-injection turbocharged 2.3-litre engine with its outstanding acceleration yet easy controllability throughout its power range.

An onboard computer using real-time data on steering angle, yaw rate, lateral G force and engine status, determines road surface conditions and driving conditions. The data is fed into the Active Torque Split All-Wheel Drive system which adjusts front/rear wheel torque distribution between 100:0 and 50:50. The system also utilises a high performance limited-slip rear differential that optimises transfer of torque between right and left rear wheels for extra traction and linear control. In dry, wet, bitumen, gravel or snow, optimum torque is distributed to each wheel for maximum traction.

The direct-injection turbocharged 2.3-litre engine was newly developed to realize the unrivalled performance of high output, ample low-end to mid-range torque with linear torque characteristics for a sophisticated ride, as well as the greater environmental-friendliness of improved fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions.

All told, this next-generation power unit brings a new dimension to Zoom-Zoom performance that Mazda simply could not produce with a large displacement naturally aspirated engine.
